Radio Telemetry

Radio telemetry involves the use of radio transmission and reception that enable wildlife biologists/ecologists to (1) locate animals at will (e.g. seasonal, dispersal, population dynamics, etc.), (2) make observations of their habits or relate locations to habitat-use, (3) detect and determine the proximate cause of mortality, and (4) determine reproductive information.

Key deer are fitted with individual radio transmitters (i.e. different frequencies) that allow researchers to relocate a given animal. Key deer will be found at least once a day for the remainder of the study (2 years).
